Week 96- Praying for his Will, not just your desires

Scriptures:

Bible Dictionary: Prayer

General Conference Address:

“Using the Supernal Power of Prayer” Elder Richard G Scott CR 04/2007

Thought:

“People pray, and it’s like they’re shopping at a store. ‘Heavenly Father, I need this and this and this and this, and deliver it by this time’. And if you don’t get this and this and this and this but this time, then God wasn’t listening to my prayers.  YES HE WAS! You’re not listening to the answers.  So don’t just expect him just to provide a delivery service. You don’t pray to tell God what you want or need. You pray to find out what God wants for you. {That’s a] big difference that will change the way you pray, forever!” Elder David A Bednar SLC 1/31.2023 Assembly Hall Address.

Misc:

“To the extent that we are not willing to be led by the Lord, we will be driven by our appetites, or we will be greatly preoccupied with the lesser things of the day. The remedy is implicit in the marvelous lamentation of King Benjamin: “For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served, and who is a stranger unto him, and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart?” (Mosiah 5:13). For many moderns, sad to say, the query “What think ye of Christ?” (Matt. 22:42) would be answered, “I really don’t think of Him at all!”” (Elder Neal A Maxwell CR “Swallowed up in the Will of the Father” 10/1995)

Invitation:

In your prayers this week, pray to know what God wants for you. Then reread your patriarchal blessing and identify what it says that he wants for you. Write them down and make plans to act on one or two of the things you identify.
