General Conference Address:

“The Transforming Power of Faith and Character” Elder Rischard G Scott CR 10/2010

Thought:

“...faith in Heavenly Father and the Savior is a principle of action and of power. Please note that sequence. As we act in accordance with Their teachings, then we are blessed to receive Their power and Spirit. We do not receive the power so we can act. Rather, we act and then we receive the power. The simple exercise of faith in Heavenly Father and in His Beloved Son invites the spirit of revelation into our lives.” The Spirit of Revelation  Elder David Bednar

The Parting of the Jordan River (Historical Narrative)

When the children of Israel arrived at the banks of the flooded Jordan River carrying the ark of the covenant, they were under a prophetic promise that God would part the waters. However, Joshua records that the waters did not budge as they stood safely on the bank.

"And it came to pass... as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,) That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap..." (Joshua 3:14–16)

Gospel Connection: This event serves as a classic illustration of the sequence of faith. The priests could not wait for dry ground before stepping forward. They had to take an action that risked their safety and physical comfort—getting their feet wet in a rushing flood—before the divine power was unlocked to split the river.  Source: Joshua 3 | churchofjesuschrist.org

Invitation:

Identify 3-5 areas in your life where you feel like you lack faith. Ponder on them, pray about them and pick one that you can work on. Once you’ve picked that area, find 2-3 things that you can do to exercise faith in that area. Commit to acting on one of them. Write down your plan and then act on it. Summarize what happened when you exercised your faith and then share the experience with someone.
