General Conference Address:
“Obedience, Consecration, and Sacrifice” Elder Bruce R McConkie CR 4/1975
Thought:
“Law of Sacrifice, which means doing all we can to support the Lord’s work and repenting with a broken heart and contrite spirit.” ( “About the Temple Endowment” from “Temples” on churchofjesuschrist.org).
The Law of Sacrifice is preparatory law. A law that helps us yield our desires, our possessions and even hearts to God. He doesn’t need our money. He needs our hearts:
“Our challenge is to unselfishly sacrifice all that we have been given, including our will. Elder Neal A. Maxwell rightly said: “The submission of one’s will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God’s altar. The many other things we ‘give’ … are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us.”11
Sacrifice is ultimately a matter of the heart—the heart. “Behold, the Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind.”12 If we are caring, if we are charitable, if we are obedient to God and follow His prophets, our sacrifices will bring forth the blessings of heaven. “And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit.”13” (“Sacrifice Brings for the Blessings of Heaven” by Robert K Dellenbach CR 10/2002)
Invitation:
Thoughtfully and prayerfully identify 4-6 places where you could do better at yielding your will to the Father. Pick one of those and make a plan to do better. Write the plan in your journal and see it through.
