“The Other Prodigal” Elder Jeffery R Holland CR 4/2002
Thought:
If we stop thinking about others long enough to think about ourselves, we divert the very power and means it takes to become who the Father needs us to be. The Savior showed us the perfect model. It wasn’t about him. Envy, jealousy, pride, and contempt never crossed his lips. It was about doing the will of the Father to help those around him. We have the same charge, and the only thing that will get in our way is ourselves.
Misc:
Most "thou shalt not” commandments are meant to keep us from hurting others, but I am convinced the commandment not to covet is meant to keep us from hurting ourselves.” ibid
Invitation:
Take a few moments and write down the definitions of the following words:
Envy:
Contempt:
Covet:
Pride:
Now take the time to find their antonyms and write down what you discovered as you reviewed the definitions of those eight words. What does the Lord need you to do this week to be a more worthy and effective instrument in his hands?
