Thought:
There are examples in the scriptures of “blind” invitations being received well. But even in those cases, there was something about the person making the invitation that caught the attention of those who were being invited, and they agreed to give it a try. I don’t think it was charisma alone that caught their attention. I believe it was the light, the spirit, that caught the attention of their souls, and they accepted the invitation. I also believe this to be the exception. I believe that the way to make invitations is more commonly a path of friendship and familiarity. We have to notice people and then become invested in them. Once that happens and our concern for them comes through, our desire and ability to make an invitation become natural and normal.
Misc:
It’s not just about loving Jesus. That love should motivate us to act to help and love our neighbors. Elder Bednar also noted in a Facebook post that teaching our family in the Lord’s way includes a pattern of observing, listening, discerning and then talking.
Invitation:
Be a great neighbor and friend FIRST. Love your neighbor and the rest will follow.
