Week 35- Lessons are Better Caught than Taught

Scriptures:

D&C 109:7

Luke 15

Alma 5: 43-49

General Conference Address:

“The Language of the Gospel” Valeri Cordon CR 4/2017

Thought:

As we begin teaching others, we quickly find that many lessons are better caught than taught. Like learning a language, we can only learn so much from a textbook or lecture. We need to hear it and see it and practice it. The classroom has a place in the process too and is actually a necessary part of learning the content well. But it’s only a part of the learning process.  We must learn by “study and by faith”(D&C 109:7).

Misc:

“You cannot teach a man anything; you can only help him find it within himself.” — Galileo Galilei

Invitation:

Take a sheet of paper and draw a line down the middle to divide it into two equal pieces. On one section write the title “Seek Learning by Study” and on the other “Seek Learning by Faith.”  Take some time to compile a list of definitions, differences, scriptures and examples of how to learn both ways and then make plans to improve your learning in the one that you would like to improve.
