Week 75- Post-flight Checklist
Scriptures:
JSH 1:19
D&C 50: 17-22
D&C 42:14
General Conference Address:
“Spiritual Guidance for Teachers of Righteousness” Elder Gene R Cook CR 4/1982
Thought:
“To maintain this focus, pilots perform a series of preflight checks…The preflight check disciplines pilots to keep their focus on the essential things that make a successful flight. Just as a pilot has a specific guiding purpose, so do we as teachers of the Word: to bring souls closer to Christ. Whenever we approach a teaching opportunity, that goal should be foremost in our mind. As teachers, do we have a checklist to help us focus on our sacred objective?” (Elder Dieter F Uchtdorf https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/broadcasts/language-recording/2022/05/11uchtdorf?lang=eng)
Just as we should prepare for each lesson, we should take some time to evaluate each lesson. Here are some questions to consider:
Checklist:
Focus on Jesus Christ
Did I teach about Jesus Christ?
Did what I teach help others grow in their love for God?
When it was over, did they glorify you or their father in heaven? (Matt 5:16)
Love those you Teach
Did I pray for learners by name? Did I ask questions or just talk?
Teach by the Spirit
Did I help learners seek, recognize, and act on personal revelation?
Elder Dallin H. Oaks taught, “Study and reason can find the truth, … but only revelation can confirm it.” Did your lesson get in the way of the Lord’s?
Teach the Doctrine
Did I teach from the scriptures and the words of latter-day prophets?
Did I help learners recognize and understand truths in the scriptures?
Invite Diligent Learning
Did I help learners take responsibility for their learning?
What invitations did I use? Did I make any plans to follow up?
Misc:
Actually write out the answers to this checklist for one of your friends. Correct omissions and get your lesson plans updated to include these key points. Write in your journal what you learned.
