Two Lines of Communication Elder Dallin H Oaks CR 10/2010
Thought:
There are two lines of communication with the Lord. The personal line and the Priesthood line. Both are important, and both operate in unique ways. Although the Priesthood runs through both methods, augmenting and enlarging along the way, the personal line of communication requires only sincere effort and can exist, to some extent, without a covenant, a calling or specific stewardship. The Personal Line can grow with righteousness and obedience, including receiving the Holy Ghost and partaking in other ordinances. It’s also the tool that is used to gain a testimony and to confirm truth, even to those seeking to access it for the first time. The Priesthood line is available to and for those serving in callings or who have specific stewardships. It authorizes and enables stewardship-specific revelation that can only be accessed by those who have been called to serve or otherwise authorized to use it in specific responsibilities. One can only receive revelation through this line for the stewardship for which they are responsible.
Misc:
“One of the things the Spirit has repeatedly impressed upon my mind since my new calling as President of the Church is how willing the Lord is to reveal His mind and will. The privilege of receiving revelation is one of the greatest gifts of God to his children” Pres Nelson “Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives.” CR 4/2018
Invitation:
Help your friends learn how to receive revelation and then how to receive it better through obedience and worthiness. Assess your own stewardship and identify 2-4 opportunities to receive more revelation for those you serve.
