“Agency and Control” Elder Boyd K Packer CR 04/1983

Thought:

Freedom comes through discipline. One can only truly have freedom if laws/rules/guidelines exist AND are followed. One cannot be free in anarchy because there is no freedom where there are no bounds.  God himself is bound by laws (Ether 12:12). If you want freedom, practice discipline. Discipline connotes following someone/something, teaching, learning and patience. Be disciplined and you won’t need to seek motivation. Do you want more freedom? Be more disciplined.  Better results? Discipline. More freedom? Discipline. Money, influence, conversion, the ability to help or serve more? The answer is discipline. Being a disciple of Jesus Christ requires discipline.

Misc:

“...we develop control by teaching freedom.” (ibid)

Invitation:

Identify an area in your life that is managed more by chaos than by freedom. Identify laws that should govern that part of your life and then write down 3-5 ways in which you could be more disciplined. Make a goal to implement that discipline for 1 week and then record your discoveries in your journal.
