“Be of Good Cheer” Elder Marvin J Ashton CR 4/1986

“Be of good Cheer. The future is as bright as your faith.” Pres. Monson CR 4/2009

Thought:

Be of Good Cheer is perhaps one of the most disobeyed commandments from the Lord.  He often used this phrase during perilous times.  Why?  What does he know about being of good cheer, especially in hard times, that we need to know?  Conversely, why does Satan want us to feel stress, anxiety, fear, and hopelessness in hard times? The opposite of cheer is discouragement and depression.

Misc:

Can you use cheer to fight off depression? How does one obtain cheer?

Invitation:

Write down 8-10 things that you do that help cheer you up. Things like create, serve, renovate, clean, organize, cook for someone, learn a new thing, read a book, listen to a favorite talk, memorize something, run, meditate, forgive, service in the temple, make someone’s life easier, etc. Keep this list going, update it, modify it, and reference it often so that you have something to go to when you feel fear, anxiety, depression, stress or darkness invading.
