Thought:
Why did we come to this earth? Why would he leave the comfort of a heavenly home to come to his world of toil and age and work and pain? Did our father simply feel like we’d had it too good for too long and now it was time to feel what pain feels like? No. As we learn in lesson 2 in Preach my Gospel, the purpose is to become like him, and it appears that the only way to do that is to have a human or mortal experience. But our spirit is timeless. We are spiritual beings having a human experience, and it should be an amazing time of change- becoming like our Heavenly Father. That’s why we have to repent every day. We need to change. We are here to become like him.
Misc:
Have you ever considered that our spirits may be able to communicate with each other? Have you considered that our spirits will remember what even our bodies cannot? I think of this when I encounter a person with a handicap. Even if their bodies are mangled with disease and their mouths won’t allow for conversation, their spirit is there. I like to think that we can still connect. I try to talk to them, to touch their hand or shoulder or arm or something to let their spirit know that I’m here and that I’m lucky to know them.
Invitation:
The next time you encounter someone with severe handicaps, envision their perfect spirit standing right there next to them, silently thanking you for treating them so well. Talk to them like you would a friend. Hold their hand, ask them questions, and introduce yourself to their caretaker, thanking them for their service. -
